A sailor and a gypsy walk in to a bar…
The gladiolus is native to Sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa and Eurasia. But mine were native to Lowes in the bulb
section.
Their stems are normally unbranched and produce 1 to 9 sword shaped leaves. The large-flowered types require moisture during the growing season, and must be individually staked as soon as the sword-shaped flower heads appear.
I bought the bulbs last year and without realizing they needed to be staked had a lot falling over.
This year they grew even larger and they are gourgeous! As long as the have a stake, light and water they are easy to grow.
Oh my, the flowers are gorgeous!
